Las Vegas road-trip

Updated: Aug 18, 2023

January 21 - 23 2022

A new week, a new blog! This time it's about Las Vegas!

In January I turned 21!! And in The Netherlands that's not a important age, but here in the United States it is. You are allowed to drink!! Since the moment I entered the United States I told myself that I wanted to celebrate my 21th birthday in Las Vegas, so I made that dream come true! I celebrated my birthday in VEGAS!!! It was amazing!! I had so much fun, I was so so so happy and I had the best friends with me!

The endless drive

We rented a car from San Fransisco and drove

all the way to Las Vegas. It was a 9+ hour drive all the way through dessert and pretty, but empty landscapes. We rented the car with Turo, that's a rental site where you can rent cars from individuals and not a company. I like renting with Turo, it's cheaper and sometimes easier. You can pick the car up where the owners live or you can contact them and compromise a pick up location. Oh a funny thing about the car, the steering wheel of the car was vibrating every time we hit the break to hard. It was hilarious we laughed so hard about it. It was probably not the safest thing, but we made it to vegas and back! We contacted the owner of the car and he would look at it when we are back.

Okay back to the story. We watched a pretty sunset while driving and we slowly started to see the billboard light and a light city in the middle of the dessert. We picked up my friend from the airport, who flew over from Maryland to celebrate my birthday in Vegas. <3 When we entered Las Vegas I fell in love right away!! I loved to see all the bright lights, colors, people, casinos, all of it! It was amazing! It kinda reminded me of Times Square in New York City, but then way bigger.

We stayed in Vegas for 2 nights, we stayed at a motel (Motel6) not far from the strip. We took an uber to the strip because parking is crazy expensive and it was just easier. It was cheap too to just order an uber. It was around $10 each time. There are parking garages on the strip, but you will pay a lot of money to park your car there, but it's possible.

Let's get the party stared!

We went out both nights! We walked around the stip a lot and just walked into different hotels to check them out. All those hotels are so beautiful! You should visit The Venetian Resort Las Vegas, it looks like you are in Venice, Italy. Caesars Palace, that's a very famous and luxuries hotel. Same for Bellagio Resorts at this hotel they also have a beautiful ceiling with all glass flowers. And sho there are many amazing hotels where you can just walk in and walk around. Almost very hotel has a casino, were u can just join and play. Another must see on the strip is the Bellagio Fountain, every hour you can see a fountain show there.

Our first night we started with a candy cocktail, yess a CANDY cocktail! And it was amazing! There is a candy store called IT'SUGAR and on the second floor you find a bar where they sell cocktails with candy on top! It's the best thing ever! please go there if you like candy and cocktails. You pay like $35 for a cocktail, but they are huge and you can even take it with you if you can't finish it. (or good to share)

What happens in Vegas states in Vegas

Both nights we did something different. The first night we went to a club called Marquee, it was so much fun! The second night we started the evening in Fremont, that 'old Vegas' but its amazing! In my head I thought about an abandon place with old led signs falling of the buildings when they told me Fremont is Old Vegas. But it's totally not like that! It was amazing!! Fremont is a covered street with on the ceiling a big screen that covers the whole ceiling were they have light shows. It was really cool to see! Also in that street there are 3 different outside stages where you can enjoy different kind of music. On one of the stages you could dance on was pop music, the other one was more rock and the last one was like '80/'90 music. But I’m sure that it will change all the time, and there is always something you will like.

So we stayed in Fremont for a bit and then took an Uber back to the strip and went to Omnia Nightclub.

There is more then just the strip

During the day we went on adventures and explored the area from Las Vegas. We went to the Seven Magic Mountains. This is a place in the middle of the dessert where you can find 7 stacks of colorful rocks. It was a cool view, besides the colorful rocks there isn't anything else to do there. But it's a cool spot to take pictures!

The second stop was the Hoover Dam. Thats a big dam what is on the boarder of Nevada and Arizona. It's an important dam that keeps the South protected from the water. We crossed the border from Arizona, just for 5 minutes. We took a couple pictures at the sign and drove back. (can I cross Arizona off the list now too?)

Our last thing we did was the Welcome to Las Vegas sign. This is THE famous las Vegas sign, so of course we needed to go there! There was a line to take pictures, but it was cool to have a picture there now.

There are more things to do in the area of Las Vegas. So can you go for different hikes in Red Rock Canyon National Park, there is a Historic Railroad Hiking Trail, there are also different mines in the area and in 4 hours you are at the Grand Canyon! So you can combine many things with your trip to Las Vegas.
